The Burnet Institute

The Burnet Institute is an independent, not‐for‐profit Australian organization that is unique in its approach of linking medical research with public health action to address many of the major health problems affecting disadvantaged communities. This approach allows us to develop innovative health solutions ranging from the highly technological through to those that are community-based.

Reflecting this, we are the only Australian medical research institute that is also an AusAID-accredited NGO. We have a strong translational focus with an aim to develop novel vaccines, diagnostics and therapeutics for diseases of global health significance especially HIV and AIDS, hepatitis viruses, influenza, malaria and emerging infectious diseases as well as some cancers.
