Brandon Capital is Australia’s leading Life Sciences venture capital firm, focused on early-stage investments in the biotech sector and is the manager of the Brandon BioCatalyst Collaboration. BioCatalyst provides dedicated investment funding to support the commercialisation of early-stage medical research discoveries that originate from its member institutes.

In addition to investment activities, Brandon BioCatalyst runs the national incubator CUREator to support early-stage drug development through to cutting edge medical devices and evidence-based digital health technologies.

In partnership with the WA Government, Brandon Capital now offers the opportunity for a Venture Capital Industry Placement in WA, working with a specialist team of talented and committed professionals, who are passionate about what they do. The role provides the opportunity to positively contribute to the growth of the Australian biomedical sector.

About the role
In this role, you will work as an Analyst in the Brandon Capital investment team and engage closely with start-ups, researchers, clinicians, and BioCatalyst stakeholders to accelerate the development of promising Australian biotechs and medical discoveries. This role involves reviewing applications, undertaking due diligence activities, and managing multiple projects at different stages of development to achieve clear project outcomes.

Responsibilities

Working closely with the WA-based Investment Manager and the Brandon Capital investment team, you will:

  • Attend external pitch presentations from researchers, clinicians, companies, etc;
  • Help identify potential life science seed investment opportunities from BioCatalyst Members, for Investment Team review;
  • Support Investment Team members in completing due diligence activities on potential investment opportunities, including technical reviews, planning of development programs, competitor analysis, market analysis, budget review and preparation, and financial modelling;
  • Support Investment Team members in providing helpful feedback and advice on early-stage programs;
  • Work with Investment Team Members on the preparation of documents that may include investment recommendations, term sheets and transaction documents;
  • Support the maintenance of relationships with WA BioCatalyst stakeholders; and
  • Other or duties incidental or ancillary to the above as required from time to time.

About You: The successful candidate will be proactive, highly motivated, and comfortable working independently in a dynamic environment. Specifically, we are looking for people with the following skills and/or attributes:

  • A PhD qualification in life sciences (or an MD), or equivalent experience;
  • At least 2 years’ experience in life science commercialisation;
  • Highly organised and a results-driven professional;
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate complex activities to predetermined timelines and budgets;
  • Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills and the ability to rapidly develop strong working relationships and open communication channels.
